Nahiyan Taufiq’s Biography

Nahiyan Taufiq is the Civic Engagement Program Manager at the Muslim Community Network (MCN), where she supports the Women’s and Youth Programming Coordinators and works to strengthen and expand MCN’s civic engagement efforts through leadership development, advocacy, and community participation.

A first-generation immigrant, Nahiyan brings a personal commitment to supporting South Asian, Bangladeshi, Muslim, and immigrant communities. Her work centers on ensuring that advocacy, civic engagement, and community care efforts are grounded in and responsive to the needs of the communities she serves.

Nahiyan approaches her work with the belief that meaningful advocacy must be informed by lived experience. She seeks to bridge direct service, research, and policy advocacy to support marginalized communities, and has been engaged in grassroots organizing, coalition building, and rapid response initiatives addressing gender-based violence and community safety.

Prior to joining MCN, Nahiyan served as Program and Operations Coordinator at the Strength in Numbers Project, where she helped build organizational systems and training programs to support community-based organizations. She has also worked with South Asian SOAR managing a Rapid Response Hub and engaging in statewide advocacy, with the NYC Department of Health’s Test & Trace Corps during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a researcher at Columbia University’s Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health. Nahiyan holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University.

Outside of her professional work, Nahiyan is involved in grassroots volunteering and mutual aid in Queens. She volunteers at a local food pantry, organizes neighborhood clothing swaps, and hosts community events and fundraisers. A proud cat mom, Nahiyan enjoys working out, taking dance classes, and building community through care and connection.
