Meer Waali
Meer Waali is the NYC Coordinator of Humanitarian Day, a project of Islamic Relief
USA ( www.irw.org/humanitarianday). He was a General Member of the Muslim Graduate
Student Group from 2006-2007 and is currently serving as an External Board Member. Meer Waali is active in the Bangladeshi community, as a Youth Coordinator in the North
American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (www.nabic.org).
In addition to the above activities, Meer has been active in promoting and organizing Islamic literacy and education programs for Muslim youth, through weekend intensives on important Islamic topics. Recent programs included
Seerah Seminar I with Dr. Sherman Jackson, ALIM, in the Winter Program 2006. Future
programs will include Seerah Seminar II with Dr. Sherman Jackson, Islamic Law, Islamic Theology, and Organizational Management. Since 2005, Meer has been working on Strategy Planning and Marketing for Husna Learning Foundation, now known as Bayyinah Learning Institution.
As an undergraduate at Stony Brook, Meer was active in the MSA, and from 2002-2005, served as an Executive Board Member of MSA-NY, a network of MSAs in the New York City, and Long Island area. He helped develop and organize many events to educate college communities about Islam and Muslims; one of these, "Truth About Islam" was post 9/11 event, and awarded "Program of the Year" in the 2001-2002 academic year.
