Sarah Sayeed

MCN Board Secretary

Sarah Sayeed is a communication consultant and researcher, specializing in the design and evaluation of public education campaigns dealing with health and social issues. Recent research dealt with media coverage of HIV/AIDS in developing countries. More recently, she has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at Baruch College, including Communication in Public Settings and Health and Health Care Communication. She holds an A.B. in Sociology and Near East Studies (Princeton University) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication (Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania).
 
As a trainer, Sr Sarah has conducted dialogue workshops on women's access to mosques (ICLI, Long Island; Islamic Association of Greater Detroit, 2005); on Diversity: Blessings or Blues (Northeast Muslim Women's Alliance, 2005); and on spiritual practice; Al-qur'an the spiritual healing for the believer (YM Sisters, 2005); "Strategies for Media Analysis and Communication with Media" (2002, Muslims Against Terrorism); Public Communication and Conflict Resolution for Health and Hospitals Corporation Managers (2004, 2003); Effective Oral Presentations for Emerging Principal Leaders of the NY Leadership Academy (2004); and has taught a series of workshops at youth camps (in 2005, 2004, 2001)- including the Etiquette/Adab of communication; poetry about God; parent-child conflict; responsibilities of leadership; appreciating blessings; doing good work (social justice in Islam)
  
Dr. Sayeed is involved in various community organizations serving the Muslim and interfaith communities of New York.  Sarah serves on the board of Women In Islam, Inc., a social justice and human rights education and advocacy organization. Sarah is involved in interfaith dialogue as a member of the Advisory Board of the Auburn Seminary Multicultural Education Center, and a participant in the Auburn Multi-faith Women's Group. 
 
As active board member, Sarah has assisted Women In Islam is a coalition of professional and social activist Muslim women representing a broad spectrum of human rights and social justice interests. The organization is dedicated to the empowerment of women through knowledge and practice of Islam.
